UB goalkeeper Emily Kelly notches second straight clean sheet as Bulls down Cornell, 2-0

ITHACA, N.Y. — Freshman goalkeeper Emily Kelly was able to notch her second straight clean sheet on Friday night as she made a career-high nine saves in the University at Buffalo women’s soccer teams (2-1-0, 0-0-0 MAC) 2-0 road win over Cornell. With the win, Buffalo hasn’t allowed a goal in 238:40 minutes of play.

• The Big Red were able to record the first two shots of the match early on as Emily Kelly stood tall and made a pair of saves on Karli Berry and Aidan Reineman to keep the match scoreless.
• In the 10^th minute, Gianna Yurchak was able to give UB their first shot of the half as she ripped a shot that was turned away by the Cornell keeper.
• After some back-and-forth play, Gurjeena Jandu was able to get free for a pair of shots but her attempts were saved by Meghan Kennedy.
• In the 34^th minute, Marcy Barberic had a great chance but her shot was again turned away by the Cornell keeper.
• Freshman Hannah Callaghan had a good chance to break the tie in the final m,inute of the first half but her hard shot was turned away by Kennedy as the teams went to halftime knotted, 0-0.
• The Bulls were able to break the scoreless tie early on in the second half as Carissima Cutrona gathered a ball in the box and buried her first goal of the season in the 50^th minute. Gurjeena Jandu sent a corner into the box where Kaitlyn Walsh got a shot towards the net that was blocked and Cutrona gathered the loose ball and scored.
• Freshman keeper Emily Kelly was then able to make a pair of huge saves to help UB maintain the lead as she made a diving stop in the 60^th minute as she turned away Aidan Reineman’s hard shot. Then Kelly stood her ground in the 63^rd minute as Juliana Comer had a point blank chance but she grabbed the hard shot as she had a clear view of the attacking player.
• Buffalo responded with a dagger in the 73^rd minute of play as Carissima Cutrona fed Marcy Barberic who finished off her first goal of the season into the lower right corner of the net to give UB the 2-0 lead.
• A couple minutes later, Emily Kelly came up big once again as she stopped an Aidan Reineman blast to preserve the 2-0 lead.
• The Big Red had a pair of chances in the final seven minutes of the game but weren’t able to break through with a goal as UB cruised to the 2-0 road win.

• With the win, the Bulls now own a 4-3-3 record against Cornell in the all-time series.
• The game-winning goal for Carissima Cutrona was the 21^st goal of her career and her eighth game-winner.
• With her three-point effort on Friday, Carissima Cutrona now ranks ninth in UB history with 55 career points. The senior is also tied for 10^th in school history with 21 career goals.
• Marcy Barberic netted her first goal of the season and second of her career in the win.
• Kaitlyn Walsh earned her first assist of the season and fourth of her career on Cutrona’s game-winner. The sophomore has now tied her career-high with five points through just three matches in 2018.
• Freshman Andrea Judasz collected her first career point, an assist, on Marcy Barberic‘s goal.
• Freshman Emily Kelly made a career-high nine saves in her second straight cleansheet victory. She hasn’t allowed a goal in 238:40 of game time for the Bulls.
• Kaitlyn Walsh and Marcy Barberic led the Bulls with three shots each in the victory.
• Cornell held the slim 15-14 edge in shots while the teams were tied with three corner kicks each.
