NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Traveling outside of the Western New York region for the first time this season, the Niagara women’s volleyball team travels to Kent, Ohio to take part in the Golden Flashes Classic this weekend. The team starts play against Morgan State on Aug. 31 at 5:00 p.m. before competing in a pair of matches on Sept. 1 against Purdue Fort Wayne (2:00 p.m.) and Kent State (7:00 p.m.).

Last Time Out
  • The Purple Eagles are coming off play at the Blue and White Classic in Buffalo last weekend, where they fell to Buffalo, North Dakota State and Seton Hall.
  • Jaycie Roberts was named to the Blue and White Classic’s All-Tournament Team. The sophomore defensive specialist/outside hitter recorded 18 kills and a team-high 29 digs over the team’s three matches, averaging 2.00 kills per set and 3.22 digs per set. She also recorded one service ace, one solo block and two assists.
  • Freshman Alex Paris leads the team in kills with 20 while fellow newcomer Jessica Streuer has a team-leading 45 assists.

Across the Net
Morgan State Lady Bears (1-3, 0-0 MEAC)
  • The Lady Bears were predicted to finish third in the Northern Division in the MEAC preseason coaches’ poll.
  • Morgan State is coming off play last weekend in the Delaware Classic, where the team fell to La Salle, Delaware and Villanova.
  • This is the first matchup between Niagara and Morgan State since 2006. It’s the teams’ third overall meeting and Morgan State leads the series, 2-0.

Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons (1-3, 0-0 The Summit League)
  • The Mastodons hosted to the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational last weekend. The team lost to Indiana State on Aug. 24 before defeating Liberty and falling to Oakland on Aug. 25. Fort Wayne most recently fell to IUPUI on Aug. 28 in straight sets.
  • Senior setter Madison Jaqua was named The Summit League’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. She delivered a league-leading 12.91 assists per set last weekend.
  • This is the first all-time meeting between Niagara and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Kent State Golden Flashes (3-1, 0-0 MAC)
  • Kent State earned a pair of victories in the North Texas Invitational last weekend, defeating Grambling State and Nicholls in straight sets before falling to the hosting Mean Green to close out tournament play. The team most recently picked up its third win of the season on Tuesday, defeating Youngstown State at home in four sets.
  • The Golden Flashes were selected to finish fifth in the MAC East division of the preseason coaches’ poll.
  • This will be the first all-time meeting between the Purple Eagles and the Golden Flashes.

  • The Purple Eagles close out non-conference play at the Hartford Invitational Sept. 7-8. Niagara will compete against Hartford on Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m. before squaring off against Bucknell (11:00 a.m.) and Brown (5:00 p.m.).
