BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius women’s basketball program announced its 2018-19 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate on Thursday, with the Golden Griffins set to kick off league play Jan. 3 at home against Manhattan. That game will be the 20th annual Kid’s Day, presented by Independent Health, with tipoff set for 11 a.m.

This is the second year of the MAAC’s new scheduling format; each team will play nine home games and nine road contests against conference rivals. Canisius will play Rider and Siena one time each this season.

The Blue and Gold start league play with back to back home games, first against the Jaspers, followed by the Red Foxes of Marist College on Jan. 5. The Griffs then hit the road for two games to play Iona (Jan. 10) and Saint Peter’s (Jan. 12).

Following the road trip, the Griffs return home to play Fairfield (Jan. 18) and defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac (Jan. 20). Canisius will then head to the Garden State to play Monmouth (Jan. 24) and Rider (Jan. 26), before returning home to host Iona on the last day of the month.

Saint Peter’s comes to town on Feb. 2, before Canisius takes to the road for a four-game swing. The Golden Griffins will play Fairfield (Feb. 7) and Quinnipiac (Feb. 9) to start the trip. It is then on to Niagara for the first installment of the “Battle of the Bridge” on Feb. 13, and finally, the Griffs will head to Marist on Feb. 16 to wrap-up the road stretch.

Canisius returns to the Kessler Athletic Center for their final three home games of the season when they host Siena (Feb. 22), Monmouth (Feb. 24) and Niagara (Feb. 27). The game against the Purple Eagles will be the first of a doubleheader with the Canisius men’s team who also play Niagara that night. Tipoff for the women’s game is set for 5 p.m.

For the second straight season, the Griffs will close the season away from Western New York, as they take on Manhattan March 2.

The 2019 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship will run from March 7-11 at the Times Union Center in Albany.
