BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius women’s soccer team will officially open the 38th season in program history on Sunday, Aug. 19, when the Golden Griffins travel to Saint Francis University. Game time at the Stokes Soccer Complex in Loretto, Pa., is set for 2 p.m.

(SOME) NEW FACES – (LOTS) OLD FACES
• Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Todd Clark, the Griffs’ roster features seven newcomers that join a team that lost six seniors. This year’s squad boasts five sophomores.
• The junior class is comprised of seven returners who all saw significant time for the Blue and Gold during the 2017 campaign.
• Lastly, the group is anchored by four seniors who all bring valuable leadership to the lineup.

A LOOK BACK AT 2017
• Canisius went 7-8-3 overall and 2-6-2 in MAAC play in 2017.
• Coming into the 2018 season, the back end of the Canisius defense will be anchored by junior Alana Rossi, who recorded a school-record nine shutouts and a 1.02 GAA.
• Juniors Margretta Dry and Madeline Beaulieu are the team’s top returning scorers after posting two goals and two assists for six points last year.

CANISIUS – SAINT FRANCIS SERIES HISTORY
• This will mark the 13th meeting between these two programs, with the Blue and Gold leading the all-time series, 7-4-1.
• The Griffs last played the Red Flash in 2011 on the road, where the Blue and Gold lost 3-2 in overtime.

UP NEXT
• After playing one game on the first weekend of the regular season, the Griffs will return to action Aug. 24 and Aug. 26., featuring their 2018 home-opener.
• Canisius will play host to Robert Morris Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., before traveling to Youngstown State on Aug. 26. That game will start at 1 p.m.
• The Sept. 2 home date with St. Bonaventure will set off a string of three games in seven days for the Blue and Gold including their final non-conference game versus Cleveland State on Sept. 9 at the 
Demske Sports Complex.
