Mrs. Lisa Swedenburg Lewis passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her home July 24, 2018 at the age of 65. She was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on March 24, 1953, and graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1971. She attended Michigan State University, where she met her husband Donald Scott Lewis and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor’s in Art History. Lisa continued her studies at Northwestern University with a post-graduate degree in Physical Therapy in 1978. She enjoyed a rewarding career in Physical Therapy and was an instrumental support system for her husband during his veterinary school. Following their return to Western New York and the birth of their first child, she dedicated her professional skills to play a key role in building and running Randleigh Animal Hospital, Boulevard Animal Hospital, and other family businesses. Lisa was an active member of the international women’s organization P.E.O. Sisterhood and enjoyed many Rocky Mountain family ski trips with both Ski Club of Lockport and Kil-Roc Ski Club. Her most important role was as a loving and dedicated mother to her three children, supporting and encouraging them in all of their many academic, professional and personal endeavors such as horseback riding, gymnastics, karate, swimming, wrestling, and football.

 Lisa leaves behind her loving husband Donald Scott Lewis, DVM whom she married on June 20th, 1981 in her hometown of Muskegon, Michigan. She is also survived by her three children, Vanessa VanEpps Redd, MD (nee Lewis, husband Justin Redd), Ralph Wesley Lewis II, and Brittany Almquist Lewis, PhD candidate, her brother Mark Gregory Swedenburg, MD (wife Susan Swedenburg), and many cherished relatives. She was an overjoyed grandmother-to-be. Lisa was predeceased by her parents Robert D. Swedenburg, MD and Betty Jo Swedenburg.

The family will receive visitors at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport, NY Saturday July 28 and Sunday July 29, 2018 from 3 pm-6 pm.  The funeral service will be held Monday, July 30th, 2018 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church Street, Lockport, NY.  The family requests that any memorial contributions be made in Lisa’s name to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.org), 28 West 44th Street Suite 609, New York, NY 10036 in loving memory of her mother Betty Jo, and that you consider adopting a pet in need when adding a furry friend to your household.
