Grattarola_Alex action vs CCSU 9-10-17BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Canisius men’s soccer team has unveiled its 2018 schedule, head coach Dermot McGrane announced on Wednesday.
 
The 17-game slate features six home contests and 11 road games. The Griffs will play seven non-conference matchups before embarking on a 10-game MAAC slate.
 
Canisius begins the 2018 campaign with a six-game road swing that gets underway Aug. 24 at Robert Morris. A visit to Northern Kentucky (Aug. 26) follows before a Labor Day weekend trip sees the Griffs square off against Big Ten foes Michigan State (Aug. 31) and Michigan (Sept. 3). Contests against Patriot League member Bucknell (Sept. 7) and Northeastern Conference member St. Francis University (Sept. 9) bring the season-opening trip to a close.
 
Little-three rival St. Bonaventure (Sept. 22) serves as both the Griffs home opener and the final non-conference contest of the season.
 
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference plays gets underway when Quinnipiac (Sept. 26) comes to the Demske Sports Complex. League play also features home dates against defending conference champion Fairfield (Oct. 6), Marist (Oct. 17), Saint Peter’s (Oct. 20) and Rider (Oct. 31). Conference road dates are against Iona (Sept. 29), Niagara (Oct. 10), Monmouth (Oct. 13), Siena (Oct. 24) and Manhattan (Oct. 27).
 
The top six teams in the regular-season standings qualify for the 2018 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship. Four teams play in the quarterfinal round at campus sites Nov. 4 before the top two seeds host semifinal matches Nov. 8.
 
The two semifinal winners square off on the campus of the higher seed to determine the conference’s champion and recipient of the league’s automatic berth into the 2018 NCAA Tournament on Nov. 11.
