UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — University at Buffalo men’s tennis sophomore Hao Sheng Koay and senior Petr Vodak have been named to the Academic All-MAC Team, the Mid-American Conference announced on Friday morning.
Koay, an electrical engineering major, earned first-team All-MAC honors for the second straight year as he went 15-15 this season, including 10-7 at first singles.  Koay won four of his final five matches in the regular season, including sweeping his two matches in the final weekend at Northern Illinois and Ball State, helping UB clinch the second seed in the MAC Tournament.  He earned the MAC’s final Singles Player of the Week award for his performance.
Vodak, who is majoring in international trade, went 14-14 in singles action this past year, including a 6-4 mark at fourth singles.  For much of the year, Vodak was also part of UB’s nationally ranked doubles team with partner Vidit Vaghela as they went 12-4 at first doubles this year and 15-4 overall, including several wins over ranked Ivy League competition.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.  Freshmen and transfer students in their first year of competition are not eligible.
