UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS
BUFFALO, N.Y. — University at Buffalo throwers Ryan Cribbin took gold and Devon Patterson took silver in the men’s shot put on Friday at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at UB Stadium. It marked the ninth straight year the Bulls won gold in the men’s shot put at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Patterson led for most of the event with a throw of 59′ 8.25″. On his final attempt, Cribbin stepped up with a season-best toss of 60′ 0.25″ to leapfrog Patterson and win his second MAC title in the last three years. Cribbin also won gold in 2016. Patterson had to settle for silver after winning gold last year.
Laura Libruk finished seventh in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:57.27. Libruk’s time was the third best all-time performance in the event in school history.
John McCarthy ran a personal-best time of 9:06.99 to finish fifth in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase. McCarthy’s time was the 4th fastest in school history.
Selina Von Jackowski finished fifth in the long jump with a jump of 19′ 7″. Western Michigan’s Gabby Collins won the event with a jump of 20′ 2.5″.
Von Jackowski also competed in the 100m hurdles and won the preliminaries with a season-best time of 13.54. She will go for the gold medal on Saturday afternoon.
Zachary Jones easily won the 1,500m event in the decathlon to finish sixth in the event with 6,228 points.
In the men’s 110m hurdles, Anthony Clark shattered his personal best with a time of 14.27 to finish third in the preliminaries and qualify for Saturday’s final. His previous best time in the event was 15.46.
Two Bulls qualified for the finals of the men’s 800m. Leon Atkins finished third in the preliminaries with a time of 1:53.02. Shane Mcguire ran a season-best 1:53.38 to finish fifth. Both will compete in Saturday’s final.
Competition concludes on Saturday at UB Stadium.
