CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Canisius freshman Erin Hufford was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after she hit .500 (7-for-14) with a double, two RBI and four runs scored for the Golden Griffins last week as the team went 5-1, including a pair of road sweeps at Saint Peter’s and Manhattan.

In the team’s 7-1 win over Saint Peter’s April 21, the Cheektowaga, N.Y., native went 4-for-4, where she recorded a double and scored two runs in the victory. Hufford also had a base hit in the team’s 15-5 win over cross-town rival Buffalo April 18 at home.

Through 35 games this season, Hufford ranks first among the team’s freshmen with her .336 on-base percentage. She’s ranks second with nine stolen bases, and she is one of four Canisius players with 10-or more RBI on the year.

Canisius is 9-26 overall and 5-3 in MAAC play. The Griffs will play at long-time rival Niagara on Tuesday afternoon before starting a 10-game MAAC homestand April 28 when league-leading Monmouth travels for a conference twinbill at the Demske Sports Complex.
