Forecasted wet weather in Western New York has forced the Canisius softball team to change its upcoming schedule. Wednesday’s league doubleheader with Niagara has moved to Tuesday, April 24. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
• The Golden Griffins are 9-26 on the year after sweeping the doubleheader at Manhattan on Sunday, April 22.
• Canisius is 5-3 in MAAC play after winning four-straight league games. The back-to-back sweeps of Saint Peter’s and Manhattan on the road last weekend for the first time since 2009.
• The Blue and Gold’s sweep of Saint Peter’s on April 21 improved Canisius to 24-2 against the Peacocks since 2006.
• Sophomore Brittany Sockwell had three homers last weekend, the first player on this year’s team to have three homers in a two game span.
• Freshman Kara Paradowski leads the team, and the MAAC, with 19 stolen bases on 20 chances.
• Senior pitcher Erika Mackie ranks sixth in the conference in appearances, and fourth in the league in innings pitched with 106.2.
• Mackie is one of four pitchers in the MAAC to have four shutouts this season. For her career, she boasts 14 shutouts.

SCOUTING NIAGARA
• Niagara is 12-27 on the year and 4-6 in league play.
• The Purple Eagles are led by Jerri Ann Orfano, who is batting .297 with six doubles and six homers.
• As a team, Niagara is tied for third in the MAAC with 23 homers, but the team leads the conference with 218 strikeouts on the year.
• Junior Sierra Bertrand leads the Niagara pitching staff six wins and 72 strikeouts in 18 starts.
 
SERIES HISTORY vs. NIAGARA
• Tuesday’s twinbill will be the 118th and 119th all-time meetings between Canisius and Niagara on the softball diamond.
• The Griffs lead the all-time series by a 92-24-1 count. Canisius has played more games against Niagara than any other opponent.
• Canisius and Niagara have split each of the last two MAAC doubleheaders going back to 2016.

UP NEXT
• Canisius will open a 10-game homestand to close out the 2018 regular-season, starting Saturday, April 28, when MAAC-leading Monmouth travels to Buffalo. That league twinbill is set to start at noon.
