The Canisius golf team finished fifth after shooting a season-low 292 as a team, and sophomore David Hanesearned All-MAAC honors after he tied for eighth in the field as the Golden Griffins wrapped up the final day at the 2018 MAAC Golf Championship at the Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The fifth-place finish at the MAAC Championship is the program’s best since the Griffs placed fourth in 2013.
The combined team score of 292 is the lowest team score for Canisius in the MAAC Golf Championship. Hanes shot a one-over par score of 73 on Sunday to finish in a tie for eighth with his three-round score of 225. He has now earned All-MAAC honors, presented to the top-10 finishers at the conference championship, in each of his first two seasons with the program. Fellow sophomore Jaret Chipman and junior John Dantonio each shot even-par 72 on Sunday. Chipman finished the 54-hole tournament tied for 20th, while Dantonio tied for 27th in the field. FreshmanMatt Genaway shot a three-over 75 on Sunday to record a three-round score of 227, which tied him for 11th overall.
Iona won the 2018 MAAC Golf Championship with a three-round team score of 895. Siena’s Michael Christifulli won the individual title with a 54-hole score of 218, which was two strokes better than Iona’s Justin Burkhammer.
