CANISIUS HEADS TO FLORIDA FOR 2018 MAAC GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
• The Canisius golf team heads south this weekend to take part in the 2018 MAAC Golf Championship.
• The Golden Griffins will start the 54-hole event Friday off the 10th tee at 7:30 a.m. The Blue and Gold is paired with Saint Peter’s and Niagara for the first round.
• Canisius placed eighth in this event last season. In 2013, the Griffs finished fourth, the program’s best placement at the conference’s championship tournament since 1997.
• The championship team at the MAAC Golf Championship earns the league’s automatic berth into the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship.
• Additionally, the individual champion at this event not only earns a bid into the 2018 NCAA Golf Championship, but also earns a spot in the 2018 Porter Cup, widely considered one of the premier amateur golf tournaments in the world.

LOOKING TO BUILD OFF LAST YEAR’S CHAMPIONSHIP PERFORMANCE
• Last year as a freshman, Canisius’ David Hanes placed third at the 2017 MAAC Golf Championship, making him the first Canisius rookie to earn a top-five ranking at the conference’s championship event.
• Hanes’ three-round score of 222 allowed him to become the first Canisius golfer to earn a top-five finish sinceDrew Creighton finished second at the 2009 MAAC Golf Championship.
• The 222 score for Hanes also ranks as the lowest MAAC Championship score for a Canisius golfer since Joe Voglcarded a three-round tally of 221 back in 2008.
• Junior John Dantonio shot an even-par 72 in the third round of the 2017 MAAC Golf Championship, which matches a career-low round for the Lancaster, N.Y., native.
