ANNAPOLIS, M.D. — Canisius freshman Matt Genaway shot a 72 on Saturday and is tied for fourth in the field as the Canisius golf team took part in the 38th annual Navy Spring Invitational Saturday in Annapolis, Md. As a team, the Golden Griffins are tied for seventh in the field with a team score of 311.

Genaway’s one-over par score of 72 on Saturday has him one stroke behind the leaders heading into Sunday’s final round. Sophomore Jaret Chipman carded a 77 on Saturday to tied for 29th, while junior John Dantonio shot a 79. He is tied for 38th in the field.

In the team portion of the event, Canisius is tied in seventh place with Saint Francis. Both the Griffs and the Red Flash are eight strokes behind sixth-place Saint Joseph’s. Towson leads the team event after the Tigers posted a team score of 290 on Saturday.

The second and final round of the Navy Spring Invitational is set to tee-off at 8:30 a.m., on Sunday. That will be Canisius’ final tournament action before heading to Florida for the 2018 MAAC Golf Championships April 20-22.
