CORTLAND, N.Y. — Buffalo State’s men’s 4×100-meter relay put itself in contention to qualify for the NCAA Championships with a winning time that is the fourth-best in the nation this season as it led the Bengals to a second-place finish today at the eight-team Cortland Team Challenge.

NOTABLES:

  • Elijah Lawal (Duanesburg/Duanesburg), Robert Liebel (Tonawanda/Tonawanda), Benjamin Fairweather(Brooklyn/Kurt Hahn Expeditionary) and Eric Vassell (Bronx/Mt. St. Michael) teamed up on the winning 4×100-meter relay with a fast time of 41.78 seconds.
  • Liebel was also a winner in the 100-meter dash in 11.16 seconds, while Vassell won the 200-meter dash in 22.54 seconds.
  • Cody Sikora (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) also raced to a victory in the 400-meter dash with the 28th-fastest time in Division III this year at 49.24 seconds, and he was also third in the 200-meter dash (23.01).
  • Benjamin Fairweather (Brooklyn/Kurt Hahn Expeditionary) and Parris Strickland (Rochester/Brighton) followed Sikora in the 400-meter dash in second (50.12) and third (50.50) respectively.
  • Sachar Williams (Rochester/East) was runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles (57.49).
  • Greg Avila-Shah (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) placed third in the 5,000-meter run (16:45.46).
  • Richard Arnaud (Rochester/Rush-Henrietta) posted a third-place finish in the long jump (6.62m), while Cody Lambert (Kenmore/Kenmore West) was fifth (6.21m).
  • Thomas Sayles (Jamesville/Fabius-Pompey) finished fifth in the pole vault (3.71m), and Nick Gray(Williamsville/Williamsville South) crossed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.74).
