BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Bisons today announced they team will welcome a very special guest for their 2018 Home Opener on Thursday, April 12 at Coca-Cola Field. 103-year old CAPTAIN SYDNEY COLE has the honors of throwing out ceremonial first pitch before the team’s Opener against the Indianapolis Indians (2:05 p.m.)
A native of New York City and current Buffalo-resident, Cole served during World War II as a pilot in the United States Army. He received the Purple Heart after being shot down behind enemy lines during the infamous Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes forest. He also awarded a Bronze Star during the conflict.
Cole’s ceremonial first pitch will lead into the 31st Home Opener in the history of Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons Home Opener begins a seven-game homestand that runs through Wednesday, April 18.
