NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara University women’s lacrosse team returns home on Wednesday to battle the Siena Saints with opening draw scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Last Time Out

  • Niagara dominated the second half of its meeting against Manhattan on Saturday, April 7 as they won 11-5. The Purple Eagles outscored the Jaspers 7-2 in the second half.
  • Caroline Crump led the team offensively with four goals while six other Purple Eagles recorded multi-point games.
  • Alexandra Higgins had another strong defensive outing as she collected eight draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Rachel MacCheyne recorded five draw controls and two ground balls.
  • Olivia Schroeder made 12 saves in net as well as gathering seven ground balls.


On the Field: Niagara Purple Eagles (5-7, 2-1 MAAC)

  • Niagara leads the MAAC in ground balls per game (21.42) and ranks third in goals per game (11.58), points per game (16.17), draw controls per game (13.17), shots per game (29.17), shots on goal per game (21.08) and caused turnovers per game (9.92).
  • Rachel MacCheyne leads the team with 36 goals and ranks tied for second in the conference in points per game (3.92), second in shots per game (7.33) and third in the MAAC in goals per game (3.00) and draw controls per game (6.25). She has scored three or more goals in eight of Niagara’s 12 games.
  • Caroline Crump ranks second on the team in goals (29), points (39) and shots (74) while ranking third in assists (10).
  • Lauren Paul is fourth in the conference with 3.10 ground balls per game and sixth with 1.40 caused turnovers per game.

 
Chasing Milestones

  • Caroline Crump has 90 career goals and is on pace to reach the 100-goal mark by season’s end.
  • Alexandra Higgins broke the career record for caused turnovers on March 24 against Iona. She currently has 75 for her career. She also ranks second all-time in ground balls with 145 for her career, closing in on Kara Martin’s record 147 career ground balls. Higgins is the active leader in career draw controls with 253.
  • Alexis Morales has 95 career points after recording two goals and an assist Saturday against Manhattan.

 
On the Field: Siena Saints (4-8, 0-3 MAAC)

  • Siena enter Wednesday’s contest on a five-game losing streak and have been outscored 76-31 in that stretch, scoring double digit goals just once.
  • Alexis Deaken leads the team with 40 goals and 47 points this season. She also ranks first on the team in shots (83), shots on goal (66), ground balls (26) and caused turnovers (7). She is tied for second in the MAAC with 3.92 points per game while also ranking second in goals per game (3.33) and third in shots per game (6.92).
  • Kerry Gerety is second on the team with 22 goals and 32 points.
  • Sammy Horton has played every minute in net for the Saints this season, accumulating 123 saves and averaging 13.97 goals against per game.
