GAME RECAP
Monmouth scored three-straight goals with under 10 minutes left in regulation, as the Hawks defeated Canisius women’s lacrosse, 14-12 at the Demske Sports Complex on Sunday. The win snaps the Golden Griffins’ regular-season conference win-streak, which spanned 27 games. The loss also drops the Blue and Gold to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in MAAC play while Monmouth improves to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Canisius dug itself out of an early 4-1 deficit, scoring five of the remaining seven goals in the frame, as the tow teams headed to halftime tied 6-6.
It appeared the Griffs were within striking distance, asJen Reininger cut the Monmouth advantage to 11-0, However the Hawks reeled off three-straight goals, as Caroline Corbliss tallied her 20th of the season with 9:14 remaining, and Allison Turturro and Cloe Novak, followed suit.
Reininger and Jourdan Roemer notched late tallies in the final five minutes, but the team was unable to finish the comeback bid.
Canisius got offense production from the usual suspects as Reininger tallied four goals and two assists for six points, while Roemer notched five goals. Allie Stewart and Rachel Ryan also scored markers, with two and one, respectively.
For the Hawks, offense was spread around the lineup with Jenny Staines pacing the team with four points (one goal and three assists). Corbliss was one of three players to score three goals each, as Novak and Alexa Smith, joining her.
Rebecca VanLaeken got the start once again for Canisius, as she made 10 saves and allowed 14 goals, and dropped dropped to 6-6. Riley Brager got he win allowing 12 goals and making nine saves.
Monmouth managed to outgun the Griffs, tallying 31 shots to Canisius’ 26. The Hawks edged Canisius in draw controls with a 15-13 mark, while the Blue and Gold tallied 20 ground balls and Monmouth recorded 16.
COACH DALEY POSTGAME COMMENTS
“Monmouth really showed up to play today. I thought they were exceptional and had a number of players step up for them and which was the difference maker in their game. We also got away from playing our style, and that hurt our performance on the defensive end. Overall I think the biggest thing we can do is to utilize this game as a learning moment and try and make Canisius lacrosse better.”
GAME NOTES
• Monmouth’s win is the first ever for the Hawks in the all-time series as Canisius leads 7-1.
• With the win Canisius’ MAAC regular season undefeated streak ends at 27 games.
• Roemer is now just one goal away from reaching the 100 goal plateau, having tallied 99 midway through her junior season.
• The point streaks of both Roemer and Reininger have been extended to 32 and 41, respectively.
• Today’s performance marked the fourth time that Reininger has accrued five-or-more points in a game, while it’s the 14th time Roemer has accomplished the feat.

Canisius prepares for another busy week, as the team hosts Marist on Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex, then heads to Quinnipiac on Saturday and meets North Carolina at a neutral site game in Syracuse on Sunday. Game times are set for 4 p.m. and 11 a.m. respectively.
