UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS

NEW YORK, NY – The senior duo of Petr Vodak and Vidit Vaghela continued to dominate doubles action as they picked up another win over a nationally ranked squad on Friday in a 7-0 loss at 13th ranked Columbia.
Vodak and Vaghela defeated Jack Lin and William Matheson 6-4 at first doubles.  The pair from Columbia was ranked 34th in the nation coming into the match. It was the highest ranked team that UB has taken down in a match.  The Lions came away with wins at two and three for the doubles point.
Columbia won all six matches in singles with Vaghela the lone Bulls player able to send a match into a third set, which he did at fifth singles with a 6-3 win in the first set.  Sophomore Villhelm Fridell lost at third singles in straight sets, but was able to force a tiebreaker in the second set before losing 7-5, 7-6 (1).
“I am proud of Vidit and Petr,” said head coach Lee Nickell. “They got down a break early and never looked back once they had the lead. We had chances up 4-2 in the breaker at second doubles, but once we lost that tiebreaker Columbia took control of the match. We are excited to take on Monmouth tomorrow.”
The Bulls will host Monmouth tomorrow at Miller Tennis Center beginning at 1:30.  The two teams will begin by playing singles action first.
