UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS
OXFORD, O.H. — The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team won all six singles matches on Friday afternoon as the Bulls won their seventh straight match and remained unbeaten in MAC play with a 6-1 win at Miami. The Bulls are now 10-3 on the year and 3-0 in league play.
The RedHawks took the doubles point with 6-4 wins at one and three, but the Bulls did score a win at second doubles as Anna Savchenko and Tanja Stojanovska won, 6-2.
The Bulls won all six singles matches, including three of those in straight sets. Stojanovska won 6-1, 6-4 at second singles, while junior Arianna Paules Aldreyrecorded a 7-5, 6-3 win at sixth singles. Sophomore Emel Abibula clinched the match for the Bulls with a 7-5, 6-3 at fourth singles.
With the match in hand, the Bulls continued to fight in singles play, winning the other three matches in three sets. Junior Chantal Martinez Blanco overcame a first set loss at one as she won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Senior Lolade Ogungbesan won her opening set at three 6-2, but she fell 6-4 in the second before coming back and winning the third, 6-4. Junior Sanjana Sudhir won her first set 6-4 before losing the second, 7-5. She then won her match in a tiebreaker at three, 7-6 (5).
“I am so incredibly proud of the fight, energy, and the willingness to be coached by this group today,” said head coach Kristen Maines. “This was a great display of singles and hopefully we can take this momentum into Sunday.”
The Bulls conclude their road trip on Sunday at Bowling Green at 11:00 am.
