Canisius men’s lacrosse begins Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Saturday when it travels to Loudonville, N.Y., to face Siena in a 1 p.m. matinee at the Siena Turf Field.
Scouting Canisius
• The Golden Griffins (3-3, 0-0 MAAC) head back to the Capital District for the second time in five days after squaring off against No. 1 Albany on Tuesday.
• Senior Connor Kearnan continues to pace the Canisius attack, leading the team in both assists (21) and points (31). Kearnan enters the weekend in first place in the league in both assists (3.50) and points (5.17) per game.
• Sophomore Carter Stefaniak ranks second on the squad in scoring with 18 points (12 G, 6 A). Stefaniak has recorded multiple points in four of five games this season.
• Sophomore Mathieu Boissonneault leads Canisius with 16 goals. Boissonneault, who paces the MAAC in goals per game (2.67), has recorded a hat trick in each of the Griffs past two contests.
• Sophomore Reece Eddy continues to contribute on both ends of the field as the long-stick midfielder leads the Griffs in both caused turnovers (10) and ground balls (26) while also contributing two goals and one assist.
• Senior Liam Ganzhorn has started all six games in goal for Canisius this season, posting a 14.08 goals against average and a .415 save percentage in 353 minutes thus far this season.
Ganzhorn has recorded 12 saves in each of the Griffs’ last two contests against Colgate and Albany.
• Canisius has made the most of its shot attempts this season as it ranks third nationally in shooting percentage (.379). The Griffs have shot better than 32 percent from the field in all six of their games this season.
Canisius Falls in Midweek Tilt at No. 1 Albany
• Top-ranked Albany rattled off 16 unanswered goals over a nearly 29-minute span to erase an early deficit and post a 19-11 victory over visiting Canisius Tuesday at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium in Albany.
• The Griffs raced out to a quick 4-1 lead midway through the first half before the Great Danes went on their run to take control of the contest.
• Sophomore Mathieu Boissonneault scored five goals, senior Steven Coss tallied two goals and two assists and senior Connor Kearnan finished with three assists to pace Canisius.
• Albany increased its lead in the all-time to 4-2 with Tuesday’s victory. The win by the Great Danes was the first by a home team in the series that dates back to the 2012 season.
• Albany held a 49-34 shot advantage for the contest as the Great Danes out-shot the Griffs by a 32-14 margin in the first half.
• The Great Danes won 26-of-34 faceoffs contested during the contest. Sophomore Daniel Balawejder recorded all eight of Canisius’ faceoff victories.
• Boissonneault recorded his second hat trick in as many contests as he finished Tuesday’s contest with a career-high five goals
• Kearnan dished out three or more assists in a game for the fourth time this season and seventh time in his career as he dished out three assists on Tuesday.
• Senior Liam Ganzhorn recorded double-digit saves in a game for the second time this season and the 17th time in his career as he matched his season-high with 12 saves.
• Senior Keith Pravato recorded his first two points of the season as he tallied a goal and an assist on Tuesday.
Scouting Siena
• The Saints (2-3, 0-1 MAAC) return home Saturday after opening league play last weekend with a 12-11 setback at Quinnipiac.
• Chris Robertson leads the Siena attack with 20 points (10 G, 10 A) while Brian Prunty ranks second with 12 points (10 G, 2 A) and Keenan Cook is third (10 G, 1 A).
• Anthony Tebbano has started all five games in goal for the Saints, compiling a 12.55 goals against average and a .526 save percentage in 301 minutes of action.
Canisius-Siena Series Notes
• The Griffs have played the Saints more than any other school as the teams meet for the 31st time on Saturday.
• Canisius holds a 20-10 edge in the all-time series against Siena. The two teams have split their last seven matchups dating back to the 2012 campaign.
• The Saints won last season’s matchup, recording an 11-10 victory over the Griffs at the Demske Sports Complex last April. Steven Coss led Canisius with four points (3 G, 1 A) while Ryan McKee and Connor Kearnan tallied two goals apiece.
• Canisius holds a 9-5 record in road contests against Siena. The Griffs posted a 12-9 in their most recent visit to the Siena Turf Field on March 19, 2016.
