FREWSBERG — A 21-year-old Frewsberg man was charged earlier today with first-degree forgery and making a false statement.

According to New York State Police, Cory Brainard reported to Troopers that he had received three $50 bills for an individual he sold personal items to, only to discover they were counterfeit when he attempted to use one of the bills at a business in Ellington. Brainard signed a deposition stating the above, however investigation revealed that in August 2017, Brainard sold a four wheeler, receiving $1,600.00, mostly in counterfeit $50.00 bills. Since then, Brainard has been using the bills at various locations. Brainard was placed under arrest, processed at SP Jamestown and issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Ellington Court. Brainard is scheduled to appear in the town of Ellington Court later in the month to answer the charges.
