CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

Rider redshirt-senior Michelle Iacono scored twice as the visiting Broncs defeated Canisius 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. The loss drops the Golden Griffins to 7-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the MAAC.

The Broncs first goal would come in the 19th minute as Iacono deposited the ball in the back of the net after sophomore Erica Ludwikowski beat the Canisius backline to the end line, tossed a pass in front of the goal, and Iacono flicked the ball into the back of the cage.

Rider would add a second tally in the 43rd minute when Iacono broke away from the pack, crossed up a Griffs defender, and fired a shot past the diving, outstretched arms of Canisius sophomore goalkeeper,Alana Rossi.

Rossi would face 10 shots in the game, stopping six in 67 minutes of action.
Freshman Bailey Fenwick-Miller would come on in relief of Rossi for three minutes to close out the first half, and the final 21 minutes of the match. The St. Mary’s Ohio, native, would pick up her first collegiate save.

The Broncs fired 14 total shots towards the frame, with 10 going on goal. Canisius would attempt eight shots in the Broncs’ direction, with two finding the Rider freshman goalie, Carmen Carbonell.

Rider and Canisius both recorded five corner kicks apiece.

Coach Clark’s Post Game Comments
“Today’s loss can be contributed directly to lack of effort and lack of composure. We’ve been inconsistent throughout most of the year. We need to be better.”
