Game Recap
- Monmouth started off quick on offense, taking two shots within the first three minutes of play. In the sixth minute, the Hawks got on the board, taking a 1-0 lead on a shot from outside the box that found the lower left corner of the goal.
- Niagara tried to create chances with shots from Hailey Bickenll and Kelsey Araujo in the 21st and 22ndminutes, respectively, but both were saved by Monmouth’s keeper.
- NU continued to try to make something happen on offense in the second half, with a shot from Araujo in the 49th minute and a high shot from Amelia Gulley in the 66th minute.
- Monmouth extended its lead, 2-0, in the 72nd minute with a header goal that sailed over the hand of Locas.
- Late shots by Araujo, Eva Bachmann and Courtney Betts were not enough to overcome the Hawks’ lead.
Coach’s Corner
- “I thought we were very timid in the first half and lacked the confidence that we needed to be successful,” said head coach Peter Veltri. “In the second half, we played much better and had a 30-minute stretch that we dominated the play and played the way we normally do. We need to put this game behind us and focus on Wednesday’s conference game.”
