BUFFALO — Centers Health Care, one of the largest and most complete post-acute health care continuums in the northeast with more than 42 skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities throughout New York State, New Jersey and Rhode Island, announced today that its’ 160-bed Waterfront Center facility has been renamed Ellicott Center For Rehabilitation and Healthcare.   The name change is a big part of a major branding effort by Centers Health Care to pay homage to the beginnings of the city of Buffalo and its many families the facility serves daily, as well as new renovations that have been underway and some areas completed to offer residents and families a more home-like feel and comfort.

“The mission of Ellicott Center in 2017 and beyond is to be the best facility for care for all of our residents and patients in the city of Buffalo and Erie County, while maintaining a comfortable, dignified environment where our residents can enjoy an engaged, healthy lifestyle that will be a constant steady source of peace of mind to their families,” said Kenny Rozenberg, Chief Executive Officer of Centers Health Care. “The Center serves so many caring neighbors and great families of this region of Western New York.  We are very proud to be part of their lives.”

Ellicott Center is names after Joseph Ellicott (1760 – 1826), an American surveyor, city planner, land office agent, lawyer and politician who, in 1801, laid out Batavia, New York, and in 1804 the village of Buffalo, establishing mill sites and communities.   Ellicott was hired in 1797 by the Holland Land Company and was sent to perform a huge task of surveying Western New York. Ellicott spent two years (1798–1800) living outdoors in summer and winter, laying out the townships of the new land in order to complete the Great Survey of the land in October 1800.

Renovations have been underway at the new Ellicott Center which are intended to offer residents a more comfortable feel.  These renovations include:

  • Two full units have been fully renovated
  • New lobby has been completed
  • Remodeled activities lounge with a kitchen for the residents to give them the comfort of home
  • Main dining room has been completed
  • Landscaping has been change to beautify the Center’s surroundings.

“The excellence of care for our patients and residents is what makes Ellicott Center and Centers Health Care so special,” said Denise Marciano, Administrator of Ellicott Center For Rehabilitation and Healthcare.  “The decision to change the name to Ellicott Center only speaks of the tremendous respect that the facility has for the history of Buffalo and it’s surrounding areas.  It also reinforces the Centers Health Care approach and reinsures that care is at the forefront of who we are.”
