CANISIUS COLLEGE ATHLETICS

BUFFALO – Junior Alex Grattarola scored two goals and senior Marco Trivellato posted his second shutout of the season to power Canisius to a 4-0 victory over visiting Central Connecticut State in collegiate men’s soccer action Sunday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Sophomore Troy Brady and freshman Filippo Tamburini also scored for the Golden Griffins (3-1-0), who extended their winning streak to four games with the shutout triumph.

Trivellato recorded his second consecutive clean sheet and the eighth of his career for Cansius, making five saves. D’Ambrosio finished with four saves between the pipes for the Blue Devils (2-3-0).

Grattarola opened the scoring in the 36th minute when he converted on a penalty kick opportunity created when junior Hunter Walsh was taken down by a CCSU defender in the box.

Grattarola doubled the Griffs advantage to 2-0 at the 77:52 mark when he headed home a free kick from junior Bjarki Benediktsson into the lower right hand corner of the net.

Tamburini made it a 3-0 contest in the 87th minute, collecting a pass from fellow freshman Manuelle Cavazzoli at the top of the box before firing a shot off the right post and into the net for his third goal of the season.

Brady closed out the scoring just 99 seconds later with his team-lead fourth goal of the campaign, using a through ball to get behind the Blue Devils defense before beating CCSU keeper Carson D’Ambrosio with a shot to the left side of the goal.

Canisius begins a two-game road swing Sept. 16 when it travels to Ivy League foe Cornell for a 7 p.m. contest at Berman Field.
