Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26), a member of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, released the following statement in response to the President’s announcement of a transgender ban in the U.S. Military:
“I have had the opportunity to see our servicemembers in action in some of the most volatile regions of the world and there is nothing more impressive and inspiring. Members of the U.S. military embody American pride.
“The President’s transgender ban in the military shows an outrageous lack of respect and understanding. His actions threaten the strength of our military and the liberties each and every one of our servicemembers risk their lives to protect.
“Statements made by the President of the United States mean something and today’s comments by President Trump are the latest demonstrating blatant and dangerous abuse of the bully pulpit.
“The United States military fight for our freedoms and we will fight for theirs.”
