Durham had their offense clicking on all cylinders as they rout the Herd 12-3 Monday night at Coca-Cola Field

Buffalo’s Murphy Smith struggled in his third start of the year. Smith allowed seven runs on eight hits in just three innings pitched. The right-hander walked just one batter but only recorded a single strikeout in the outing. The loss moved Smith’s record to 2-3 this year.

In a quick 7-0 nothing hole, the Herd managed to tally a pair of runs in the third. Ian Parmley started the inning with a walk, followed by Shane Opitz doubling to left-center put two on for the Bisons. Jon Berti then fought off a single over the first baseman’s head scoring both runs to make it 7-2.

Rowdy Tellez drove in his 40th run of the season in the sixth. After Dwight Smith Jr. hit a leadoff double, he quickly made it to third when Gergorio Petit grounded out. With a runner on third, Tellez came through with a sacrifice fly to left to bring home the run and cut the Bulls lead to 9-3 in the sixth.

The Herd will continue their home stand as they look to return to the win column Tuesday against the Bulls. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Bisons Notes: Dwight Smith Jr. 2-4 with a run scored… Jon Berti went 2-4 with two RBI
