The Rochester Red Wings blanked the Toledo Mud Hens 2-0 Friday night at Frontier Field, in front of a paid crowd of 11,221. The series continues Saturday night at 6:05 p.m., followed by a performance by country star Rodney Atkins and post-game fireworks. The Alyssa Trahan Band will kick off the evening’s entertainment with a set in front of the Team Store at 5 p.m.

It was a pitcher’s duel early on in the game, as both Rochester pitcher, Tim Melville, and Toledo pitcher, Myles Jaye, cruised through four shutout innings both only allowing one hit each to keep the game scoreless.

ByungHo Park led off the bottom of the fifth with a single. With that single, Park extended his hitting streak to six consecutive games. Tommy Field followed Park with a hit as well that moved Park into scoring position and gave the Red Wings a scoring chance with nobody out. Rochester cashed in on this chance when the very next batter, Edgar Corcino, drove in Park to give the Wings a 1-0 lead. Corcino also extended his hit streak to eight games in the process.

Back to back singles by Mitch Garver and Niko Goodrum gave Rochester runners on the corners with only one out in the bottom of the sixth. The next batter, Kennys Vargas, grounded into a fielder’s choice that plated Garver extending the Red Wing lead to 2-0.

Jaye had his night come to a close in the bottom of the seventh. He finished with six innings pitched, allowing six hits, two runs (earned), one walk, and struck out seven on 97 pitches, 66 for strikes.

Melville was relieved in the top of the ninth by Alan Busenitz. He finished with eight scoreless frames, only allowing four hits and one walk and struck out four on 104 pitches, 69 of them being strikes.

Busenitz gave Rochester a scoreless ninth and was able to close the door on a Toledo comeback, picking up the save for the Red Wings.

Rochester out-hit Toledo 6-5.
