PRESS RELEASE

ALBANY – New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman released the following statement upon the Assembly’s passage of his Tenant Protection Act:

“The Assembly’s passage of my Tenant Protection Act marks an important step toward stemming the rising tide of tenant harassment that endangers New York tenants everyday. Our current criminal law handcuffs prosecutors by preventing us from pursuing some of the worst offenders – that needs to end.

I thank Chair Lentol and Speaker Heastie for their strong leadership in passing this bill. I urge the Senate to act now so that all of us in law enforcement have the tools we need to address the urgent and growing problem of tenant harassment.”
