HINSDALE — A 39-year-old Wellsville man was charged Friday with aggravated criminal contempt after he was found traveling in a vehicle with a party who had an order of protection against him.
According to New York State Police, Michael R French was stopped on I-86 for a speed violation. Troopers checked French’s license and found he had an active order of protection against him. The protected party was also in the vehicle with French. Troopers then arrested French. French had a previous conviction for the same offense. The prior conviction elevated the current charge to the D class felony of aggravated criminal contempt.
French was processed at SP Olean and arraigned in the Town of Hinsdale court then remanded to the Cattaraugus Co jail without bail.
