The Bisons dropped their last of an eight game road trip on Sunday Afternoon, losing to Pawtucket at McCoy Stadium, 3-2. A pair of solo homers and a single from Mike Miller was enough to take down the Herd.
After Herd pitcher Luis Santos (2-5) walked Bryce Brentz and Steve Selsky in the sixth inning, Pawtucket’s Miller batted in a line drive single to left field to score Brentz and move the PawSox up 3-1.
The Red Sox’s first score the afternoon came four innings earlier with a home run by Brentz. The left fielder sent a bomb to right field for his tenth homer of the season to knot up the score at one apiece.
At the bottom of the fourth frame, Pawtucket added to their early lead with a Steve Selsky solo homer. Selsky was ahead in the count at 3-1 when he batted a pitch from Santos deep to right field to stretch the PawSox advantage to 2-1.
The Bisons got on the board for the first time of the afternoon after Jason Leblebijian was hit by a pitch and a Jarrod Saltalamacchia single brought him to third in the second inning. On the next at bat, Raffy Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to center field towards Pawtucket’s Rusney Castillo to bring Leblebijian home.
Lopez brought Buffalo back into the hunt for the win later in the eighth inning with his seventh home run of the season to right field, making it a one run game at 3-2.
Santos started for the Herd to pitch the first six innings, giving up all three runs on the afternoon and seven hits. The righty had five strikeouts before leaving the mound. Chris Smith closed out the game and gave up just a single hit and a walk.
The Bisons will head home to Coca-Cola field for a Tuesday night matchup against Lehigh Valley at 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Brett Oberholtzer (1-4, 2.40 ERA) will service the mound for the Herd and righty Mark Leiter (0-0, 2.70 ERA) will start for the IronPigs.
BISONS NOTES: Buffalo is now 32-29 overall on the season after this eight game road trip. They’ll now return to Coca-Cola field for a seven game home stand… Raffy Lopez went 1-2 on the afternoon with a pair of RBIs. The Catcher is currently batting at .286 on the season…One-run games continue to be a so-so type of outing for the Bisons. The Herd moves to 7-11 this season in games of that nature.
