NIAGARA FALLS AIR RESERVE STATION — A re-designation ceremony to be held here at 11 a.m. Saturday marks a significant milestone as the 914th Airlift Wing re-designates to the 914th Air Refueling Wing. This ceremony ushers in a transition within the wing’s history as we move toward a primarily aerial refueling mission set.
It is worthy to take pause and reflect on the great accomplishments of the 914th throughout its long and rich history both abroad and at home. The 914th traces its lineage back through its flying squadron to its roots as the 3rd Combat Cargo Squadron flying missions over the Himalaya Mountains in China-Burma-India during World War II.
The 914th Airlift Wing holds a record of over 184,000 accident free flying hours over the last 56 years maintaining a 100% safety and accident free flying record since flying the C-130 Hercules aircraft. After 73 years of flying tactical airlift, the exceptional airmen and civilians here at the 914th will continue a legacy of integrity, service, and excellence as we continue forging ahead and establishing a new chapter in the history of the 914th Air Refueling Wing flying the KC-135 Stratotanker.
