GENEVA, Ohio — Benjamin Ezike (Staten Island/Susan Wagner) officially concluded the 2016-17 Buffalo State Athletics seasons today with an 11th-place finish in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The senior transferred from Division I Rhode Island last year with two seasons of outdoor and one season of indoor eligibility remaining. Ezike exploded on the scene last season with the Bengals, winning the national championship in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump events, but was unable to defend his outdoor championship today as he placed 11th, posting a mark of 14.30 meters.
Freshman Luther Newburn of Benedictine captured the title with a distance of 15.98 meters.
