ONEONTA — Buffalo State sent a select group of athletes to the two-day Oneonta Final Qualifier Meet and several took advantage by improving their standing in the national rankings before this weekend’s selection for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.

NOTABLES
Benjamin Ezike (Staten Island/Susan Wagner) guaranteed that he will be in the field to defend his national title in the triple jump, winning the event with a facility-record mark of 14.90 meters, good for seventh in the nation this season.

The women’s 4×100-meter relay of Catarra Burroughs (Rochester/Wilson Magnet), Dayonna Holmes (Rochester/Charlotte), Satin Holmes (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) and Keanna McKnight (Queens/Springfield Gardens) also punched their ticket to the national meet.  The Bengals were on the outside looking in entering the meet, but climbed to ninth in the nation with a runner-up time of 47.11 seconds.

Darren Thompson (Buffalo/St. Joe’s) also put himself in contention for the NCAA Championships, posting the 24th-best time in Division III this season in the 200-meter dash, clocking 21.58 seconds, which was good for third place.

Dayonna Holmes also gave herself a chance in the long jump, placing second with a mark of 5.66 meters, which was second at the meet and 25th in the nation this season.
