LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Four Purple Eagles set season-best performances in day one of the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
Meet Marks
- Caroline Hampton, Sarah Grubbs, Jamie Guadagno and Nicole Torres set season-best numbers.
- Hampton’s season-best time of 4:58.41 in her final 1500m race is three seconds faster than her previous season-best.
- Guadagno beat her season-best jump of 4.81 at the Wolfie Invitational with a 4.94m effort.
- Grubbs ran her second fastest time ever in the 800m. Grubbs posted a season-best time of 2:21.43, shaving off four seconds from her previous season-high, to place 10th in the preliminaries. She will be an alternate in the 800m final on Sunday.

- Mara Skordynski placed 13th in the 400m preliminaries (1:00.80).
Coach’s Corner
- “We always hope for the best for the final meet of the season, as we know how much time and effort the women put in, but sometimes it doesn’t come together perfectly and we had a touch of that in today’s races. Our women have given their best through it all, just as they have today, and we’re immensely proud of them. We still have day two to go, so we’re not done yet, and know there’s going to be some very bright spots to wrap the season up with. We’ve have our eyes deadest on producing in the relays and are very excited to see what our throwers and 5k runners can do. The conference continues to get more competitive each year, but all we can do is focus on what we do well and hope we execute our best,” – Christine Kloiber
- “Sarah Grubbs had a great race, she’s in sub 2.20 shape, but just took the first 400 out a touch too fast which bit her in the final straight. Gutsy running and she still posted her second best performance ever, so great job by the junior.”
- “Torres also ran well, she dinged a hurdle on the backstretch, but showed a very mature amount of poise for her first MAAC Championship. She posted the second fastest 400 hurdle time the school has seen, so it’s a fine way to cap off the season as a freshman.”
- “This was Caroline’s final 1500 and Mara’s final 400 as Purple Eagles; they gave it all they could and finished with a lot of heart. It will be hard not having them here with us a year from now. We still have the relays, and they’re going to play key roles.”
