UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Another meet, another school record goes does for the University at Buffalo track and field team. The Bulls competed at the Jim Thorpe Open hosted by Penn State on Friday. The team walked away with several first place finishes and a new school record in the men’s 1500m.
Brian Crimmins continues to be a threat on the track, clocking in at 3:44.94 for first place in the men’s 1500m. This time set a new school record in the event, and ranks first in the Mid-American Conference. Also finishing well in the 1500m were teammates Tom Meehan and Benjamin Cardamone. Meehan clocked in at 4:07.87 for fourth place, and Cardamone finished in fifth with a time of 4:09.63.
The men also saw first place finishes from Justin Van Epps, Daniel Normoyle, and Sam Wray. Van Epps led the way in the men’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:30.73 for first place. Just behind him were teammates Matthew Mercer and Owen Barber. Mercer clocked in at 9:32.29 for second, and Barber at 9:36.78 for third. Normoyle cleared a height of 4.65m/15′ 3″ in the men’s pole vault for first place. Freshman Wray continued to be impressive in the men’s discus throw. Wray threw for a distance of 48.09m/157′ 9″ for first place.
The women saw six first place finishes. Mikayla Pearce started off the meet with a first place finish in the women’s 100m, clocking in at 12.40. Right behind her was teammate Tyra Forbes, who clocked in at 12.58 for second place. Laura Libruk and Meghan LaTuso performed well in the 3000m steeplechase, coming in first and second respectively. Libruk clocked in at 11:29.96, and LaTuso at 11:39.86.
The women had four first place finishes in the field events. Megan Patterson threw for a distance of 13.74m/45′ 1″ for first place in the women’s shot put. Hannah Roof also took home a first place finish in the women’s pole vault. Roof cleared a height of 3.5m/11′ 5.75″ for first. Miranda Daucher took first in two events: discus and hammer throw. Daucher threw for a distance of 53.35m/175′ in the hammer for first. She also threw for a distance of 48.22m/158′ 2″ in the discus for first. Right behind her was teammate Jess Dhaliwall. Dhaliwall threw for a distance of 40.04m/131′ 4″ for second.
The Bulls are back in action next weekend, when they are competing in the conference championships.
