BUFFALO — Tanja Stojanovska and Ethan Nittolo were named the University at Buffalo Athletes of the Week.

Junior Tanja Stojanovska was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2017 Women’s Tennis MAC Tournament as she was dominant in doubles and clinched the championship for the Bulls in singles.  She joined doubles partner Margarita Kotok at first doubles, where the pair went a perfect 3-0, leading the Bulls to the doubles point on all three days.  On Sunday, she saved her best singles performance for when it mattered most.  She won her first set at first singles, 6-2, before dropping a tough tiebreaker in the second.  Stojanovska was one of just two court still playing and the Bulls needed just one more victory for the championship.  She was dominant in the third set, as the first-team All-MAC selection won 6-2, leading the Bulls to the title.

Sophomore Ethan Nittolo was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Tournament as he clinched both matches in singles, leading the Bulls to the MAC Title.  In the semifinals, Nittolo lost his opening set at six, but he came back to win the second set 6-3 and dominated his third set 6-1 to send the Bulls to the championship match.  In the finals, Nittolo again got down early as he lost the first set at sixth singles, but he stayed alive with a tie-breaking win in the second set and then in the third, he overcame a 4-1 deficit to send it to a tiebreaker, which he won, clinching the match and the championship.
