The Canisius outdoor track team had a strong showing from the UB Invitational Saturday afternoon, gaining two first place finishes in the 3K steeple events, while also picking up four third-place finishes for the day.

Sophomore Kayla Stewart had a first place performance in the women’s 3K steeple (11:25.34), while senior Cooper Roach followed suite winning the 3K steeple on the men’s side, clocking in at 9:14.62.

Freshman Justyna Wilkinson performed well in the women’s steeple event, ending third in 11:37.85, with junior Haylie Virginia also running to a third place finish in the women’s 800 meter at 2:22.87.

On the men’s side, freshman Donny Glavin placed third in the 5K event with a time of 14:50.74, while the 4×400 meter relay team of sophomore Justin Vestri, senior Arrane Paige-Rispoli, senior Galen Snyder and freshman Marcus Brown also ran to a third place finish at 3:35.08.

The event marked the fifth competition for the Griffs in the outdoor campaign, the final before the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship next weekend.

The Golden Griffins will head to Rider University next Saturday, May 6, for day one of the MAAC Championship beginning at 2:15 p.m. Events for day two will begin at Noon, with the final event of the Championship set to take place at 3:55 p.m.
