CORTLAND — Buffalo State’s Allie Block (N. Tonawanda/Starpoint) was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Athlete of the Week after the sophomore excelled at the plate and in the circle for the Bengals.

The exceptional education major hit .588 (10-of-17) with five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs as Buffalo State went 3-3 for the week in SUNYAC play.

Block hit a first-inning grand slam to set the tone in Saturday’s 7-3 win over Geneseo and continued to carry the load in the circle as well.  She threw 37.3 innings, earning three wins to go with 45 strikeouts and a 2.63 ERA.

Block leads the conference with 127 strikeouts, which is currently the third-most in a single-season in program history.

She now sits at 12-12 on the season in the circle, to go with a 2.81 ERA and is holding opponents to a .244 batting average.  At the dish, Block is hitting .330 with three home runs and 18 RBIs and is getting on-base at a .404 clip.

The Bengals still have two SUNYAC doubleheaders on the schedule to end the regular season.  Buffalo State will be at Plattsburgh on Friday for a twin bill starting at 3 p.m. and will head to Potsdam on Saturday, with first pitch set for noon.

Buffalo State currently sits in sixth place in the conference at 8-6 and is in the heart of the SUNYAC playoff race.
