ROCHESTER — Rochester Red Wings pitcher Jason Wheeler has been named the Batavia Downs Gaming and Hotel Player of the Week for April 18-23.

Wheeler struck out a career-high 11 batters on April 21, picking up the win as the Wings beat Charlotte 3-2. Wheeler allowed five hits and two runs in 7.0 innings pitched.

Selected by the Minnesota Twins in the eighth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Loyola Marymount, Wheeler went unbeaten in 11 starts from May 7-July 1, 2016 for the Wings and named the IL’s starting pitcher in the Triple-A All-Star Game, July 13 in Charlotte.
