Rochester finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base as the Red Wings fell to the Charlotte Knights 7-3 Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark.

The Knights (7-9) took an early lead in the 1st inning off Aaron Slegers (1-2) as Rymer Liriano drove in two runs with a two-out single to make it 2-0.

The Red Wings (8-7) went up 3-2 in the 3rd as J.B. Shuck tied the game with a two-run home run and Mitch Garver hit a two-out RBI double against Reynaldo Lopez (1-1).

Charlotte would regain the lead in the 4th. Danny Hayes and Liriano opened the inning with hits to put two on with nobody out. Tyler Ladendorf then hit a slow ground ball down the third base line that was barehanded by Leonardo Reginatto. The throw beat the runner but pulled Tommy Field’s glove into Ladendorf which jarred the ball loose, allowing Hayes to score from second base. The play was ruled a single with a throwing error charged to Reginatto. Adam Engel followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Knights a 4-3 advantage.

Another Red Wings fielding miscue aided Charlotte in the 5th after the first two batters reach to open the frame. Willy Garcia tapped one in front of the plate and Garver pounced on it. Garver’s throw was missed at first base by Ben Paulsen resulting in both runners scoring on the error. Ladendorf added an RBI double later in the inning to make it 7-3.

Slegers was charged with seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

Lopez allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 6.0 frames.

Shuck and Field both finished 2-for-5. Four other Wings reached base safely twice in the loss.
