Canisius freshman David Hanes is tied for sixth after posting a 76 in the first round of the 2017 MAAC Golf Championship Friday at Disney’s Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. As a team, the Golden Griffins shot 320, which places the team eighth after the first 18 holes.

Hanes was even through 13 holes, which included a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. His score of 76 was four-over par. Sophomore John Dantonio, the reigning MAAC Golfer of the Week, fired an 80 to finish round one with a tie for 25th, where he’s joined by teammate Mike Davern.

Defending MAAC champion Siena sits atop the team leaderboard after round one with a team score of 309. Siena’s Jake Holt and Saint Peter’s golfer Ryan Rodriguez are tied in the individual portion of the tournament after both players shot an opening-round 74.

The second round of the 54-hole championship will tee off Saturday at 7:30 a.m., of the 10th tee.
