The Canisius golf team heads south this weekend to take part in the 2017 MAAC Golf Championship. The Golden Griffins enter this year’s event ranked eighth among the nine MAAC schools. The Blue and Gold will start the 54-hole event Friday off the first tee at 7:30 a.m.

Canisius placed eighth in this event last season. In 2013, the Griffs finished fourth, the program’s best placement at the conference’s championship tournament since 1997. The championship team at the MAAC Golf Championship earns the league’s automatic berth into the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. Additionally, the individual champion at this event not only earns a bid into the 2017 NCAA Golf Championship, but also earns a spot in the 2017 Porter Cup, widely considered one of the premier amateur golf tournaments in the world.

This year marks the fifth-straight year where the MAAC Golf Championship will be broadcast on ESPN3. Live coverage on Sunday will start at 10 a.m., and will feature play from hole No. 9 and No. 18.
