BUFFALO — University at Buffalo student-athletes participated in a pair of important campus-wide initiatives this week. On Monday, UB student-athletes participated in Sexual Violence Prevention Day. On Tuesday, they participated in DIFCON.

For Sexual Violence Prevention Day, members of the SAAC e-board set up a table at the Student Union welcoming all UB students to stop by and take photos with a word written on their body to express their position on sexual violence prevention and post it to social media.

At DIFCON (short for Difficult Conversations), Treyvon Mask of the track & field team, Trey Bowman of the football team and former track & field athlete Asher Beasley represented UB Athletics in a conversation about expressing their political beliefs both on and off the field. In the debate-style format, the three UB student-athletes addressed provocative topics affecting the nation.

A moderator gave a three-minute capsule summary of the controversy the proposition addresses. The panelists gave a brief statement of their reasons for supporting or opposing the proposition, and then talk among themselves for a total of 30 minutes. The floor then opened for discussion for the next 45 minutes. The moderator ended the session by summarizing the discussion and asking audience members to reflect upon what they learned.
