Ernest “Ernie” William Barney of Silver Springs, Fl and Friendship, NY, passed away quietly in his sleep at his home on April 15, 2017. He was born on September 24, 1945 in Cabot, VT, the son of the late Albert and Stella [Hale] Barney.

Ernie was a proud member of the US Air Force, serving in Marseilles, France and Valdosta, GA. He tried out as a catcher for the Detroit Tigers and was offered and turned down a contract. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, kayaking, building race cars and racing against Bobby Allison and Cale Yarborough. He was an avid motorcyclist with the Borrow Time Riders and was responsible for forming C.O.P.S. (Citizens Patrol of Marion County) Forest and was a member of the Shawnee Drum and Bugle Corp where they won 1st place in the World’s Fair.

He was a recipient of a heart transplant courtesy of Christopher Stafford 25 years ago.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Bernie) Barney, two sons Edward Barney and Douglas (Melissa) Barney, two stepdaughters Victoria (Scott) Kent, Janell (John) Infantino, three stepsons Scott (Maxine) Drapo, Richard (Joanne) Drapo and Shawn (Julie) Drapo, 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late John Infantino.

Family will be present Saturday and Sunday from 3-7 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, where Funeral Services  will be Monday at 11AM.

Interment in with Military Honors in Mt. View Cemetery, Pekin, NY.
