LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team defeated the Rider Broncs, 5-2, on Friday.

The Purple Eagles went up 1-0 after winning the doubles point. NU won in one and two doubles.
The team of Stella Peisakhova and Sharlee Deshmukh won its match in No. 1 doubles, 6-1, in its first conference match of the season. In two doubles, Ali Hutchinson and Sansriti Ranjan held off Rider’s No. 2 to win 6-4. In singles action, Niagara won four of the six matches. Peisakhova eased past Vanessa Canda, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles. Deshmukh won her match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Hutchinson defeated Amanda Binder, 6-2, 6-2, in five singles. Shannon Wong rallied to beat Danielle Scrudato, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The Purple Eagles will play their final non-conference match of the season at Wagner on Saturday at 10 a.m.
