LOUDONVILLE — The Canisius baseball team took the rubber match against Siena on Saturday, besting the Saints 7-2, to win the series 2-1. With the win the Griffs are 20-13 and 4-5 in MAAC action while, Siena dropped to 12-18-1 and 5-4 in conference play

Canisius got on the board first, as three straight two-out singles by Ryan Stekl, Christ Conley and Gage Lanning led to the first Canisius run. Mark McKenna came up next and a fielding error by the Saints brought in Conley to make it 2-0.

The Blue and Gold added two runs in the top of the fifth and sixth to put the team up 4-1, before a 3-run inning sparked by a Tim Kensinger single, which put the game out of reach for the Saints.

Andrew Sipowicz got the start and worked an efficient 6.2 innings, allowed six hits, two runs and fanned four in the win. He improved to 2-2 on the year.

Michael Ginther came on and got the Griffs out of a runners-at-the-corners jam, and worked one flawless inning with a strikeout. Will Frank retired one out in the three batters he faced, while Tyler Smith came on and closed the door working a perfect ninth.

Kensinger led the team with a pair of hits in the contest, to go along with an RBI. Five different Griffs tallied RBI in the game as Lanning, Mark McKenna, Stephen Bennett, Conley all joined Kensinger.

The Griffs have a pair of midweek contests coming up, facing Buffalo at home on Tuesday at 3 p.m., and Cornell in Ithaca on Wednesday, before hosting its second conference series on Saturday and Sunday. There will be a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, with the finale also beginning at noon on Sunday.
