BUFFALO –Jose Berrios allowed one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts over eight innings and Bengie Gonzalez drew a bases loaded walk in the 10th inning as the Rochester Red Wings beat the Buffalo Bisons 2-1 Thursday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.

Berrios dominated for the Red Wings, allowing just four hits in eight innings. He only needed 83 pitches to handle the Herd, and the lone run he allowed was unearned. Berrios did not reach a three-ball count all afternoon and threw just 20 total balls to the 27 batters he faced.

Grube was equally impressive for the Herd. He allowed just two hits while striking out seven in his six innings. His only blemish on the day was a fourth-inning solo shot to left field by former Bisons’ MVP, Matt Hague.

The lone run Berrios surrendered came in the 5th as the Bisons (5-2) opened the inning with back-to-back singles, the second of which included an error that put runners at the corners. A sacrifice fly by Christian Lopes tied the game.

Alex Wimmers (1-0) pitched around a two-out double in the 9th inning to send the game to extras. Bisons reliever Danny Barnes (0-1) retired the first eight batters he faced after entering with two outs in the 7th but the Wings got to him with one out in the 10th.

Ben Paulsen singled to right and J.B. Shuck entered as a pinch-runner. Leonardo Reginatto smashed a ball down the left-field line that would have gone for extra bases but the ball hit third base umpire Nic Lentz and stayed in the infield. With runners at first and second, Buffalo brought in John Stilson. John Ryan Murphy drew a four-pitch walk and Gonzalez walked to drive in the go-ahead run after falling behind 0-2.

Wimmers tossed a 1-2-3 bottom half of the 10th to secure the victory.

The two teams combined for just nine hits in 66 at-bats. Reginatto was the lone Wing with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4.
