FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Niagara Purple Eagles were clipped by the Fairfield Stags, 4-3, on Sunday.
Today’s match came down to the final singles match. NU trailed 1-0 after dropping the doubles point despite winning in one doubles and was edged in two doubles. The No. 1 pair of Shannon Wong and Sharlee Deshmukh won 6-3 to improve to 2-1 in MAAC play. The No. 2 team of Sansriti Ranjan and Ali Hutchinson was nipped, 7-6. The Purple Eagles won in No. 1, 2 and 3 singles. Stella Peisakhova won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 1 singles for her team-leading 11th win. Wong edged Nicole Aragones, 7-6, 7-6 in two singles and Ranjan cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in three singles. The match was tied at 3-3 when Hutchinson fell in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in No. 5 singles.
The Purple Eagles will play at Rider on Friday and Wagner on Saturday.
