NIAGARA FALLS — The Purple Eagles baseball team picked up a huge 17-8 win against Quinnipiac on Monday to sweep the season series with the Bobcats.

The Bobcats started the game off strong, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Niagara answered with one run in the bottom of the first; Peter Battaglia hit a sacrifice fly to score Kirwer. Niagara wrested the lead from the Bobcats in the bottom of the second. RBI doubles from both Cullen and Kirwer put NU up, 5-4. In the bottom of the third, Geoff Seto went yard, scoring three runs to put the Purple Eagles on top of the Bobcats, 8-4. It was Seto’s first homerun of the season. Quinnipiac scored once in the top of the fourth, but the Purple Eagles dominated in the bottom of the inning, scoring eight runs to take a commanding 16-5 lead. Trevor McCauley, Owen Dziados, Joel Brophy, Kirwer and Battaglia each had one RBI in the fourth and Cullen had his second RBI double of the game. Niagara tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth; Battaglia flied out to left field to score Julian Gallup. Though the Bobcats scored twice more, the Purple Eagles came away with the commanding 17-8 victory.

The Purple Eagles host Little 3 rival St. Bonaventure on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Bobo Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
